Five people of color video-chatting over the book Superforecasting.

Disaster Girl’s Book Club

  • Book Club is a free, public, fully virtual, no homework (All the reading happens on the live) seasonal event. It’s also a freeform social event that has it’s wild unplanned moments as well.

Disaster Girl started on Tik Tok in November of 2022 to make urban disaster prep videos but she soon realized that awesome adults needed places online to congregate to discuss new ideas.

Book Club (formerly known Booklyn Girls) was organically born as a community tradition which helped to foster the wide spread new trend of live internet book readings—a countercultural step in the fight against loneliness, online misinformation and lack of critical thinking,

  • I choose nonfiction books that both 1. speak to my heart and 2. answer the call of our collective yearning. My selections put forward first, my own identity as a Black Jamaican American woman who is a descendant of international human trafficking but despite all odds is now a future-thinking-philoshopher on the subject of technological innovation’s intersection with psycho-social science.

Books can be purchased through this link which supports Bronx Bound Books.

  • Anyone can join!

Book Club happens in seasons of fluctuation with my personal capacity on most Saturdays and Sundays at 11am EST (or random demon hours). Keep up with my TikTok or susbribe to my google calendar for the latest updates.

  • Yes, I put most of my regular readings up on my youtube (where I also add extra value of bonuses, images and videos into the recording.) Any “demon hours” readings are ephemeral one-offs.

NYC Local Day Hikes

  • Hiking is a personal passion of mine that not only helps my mental health but is also part of my personal culture as an urban disaster prepper.

It keeps me in shape in case I need to bugout by foot, connects me with action-oriented people, gives me opportunities to test and maintain equipment, add points of interest to my offline maps, increases my knowledge of plants and topography and places to arms train.

  • I personally lead 6 - 12 beginner-to-moderate level day hikes out of NYC every year. (Spring and fall only.) These are invite only and exclusive but please reach out if you are interested.

I also enjoy being invited on hikes with others.

  • Mutual aid is when everyday people get together to meet each other's needs, with the shared understanding that the systems we live in are not meeting our needs and that we can meet them together, right now, without having to pressure power structures to do the right thing.

  • I frequently join and organize community mutual aids efforts as needed. Reach out if you think we should work together!

MUTUAL AID

WISDOM OF THE CROWD

Disaster Girl is not just a multi-hyphenate prodigy and community leader in her local home of New York City… but she is also as a celebrated content creator in a fast growing network of leftist online virtual communities crossing over many different topics.

In late-stage capitalism, we see the incentive for profits stifle innovation and good ideas. Ideas that can only come from habitually networked people interacting in an open-minded, open-sourced and open-ended playground.

Put on your thinking cap and come hang out and play.
